Project Quantity Surveyor

Atkins Search have an exciting opportunity for a Project Quantity Surveyor to join a leading, reputable construction main contractor based in Derby.

Role

As a Project Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality. Working closely with project managers and site teams, you’ll provide expert cost management and commercial insight throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial and contractual performance of projects from inception to completion.
  • Prepare accurate cost plans, budgets, and valuations for works.
  • Procure and manage subcontractor packages, ensuring value for money and compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor and report on project costs, including the preparation of cash flow forecasts.
  • Identify and manage risks, providing advice on mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and negotiate variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure all commercial activities comply with contractual and company requirements.

Person

The successful candidate will be an experienced and motivated individual with a proven track record in quantity surveying. Key attributes include:

  • Relevant experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry, ideally with projects in sectors such as education, healthcare, or heritage.
  • Strong knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Excellent financial acumen, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
