Principal Structural Engineer


Overview

Atkins Search are recruiting for an experienced Principal Structural Engineer on behalf of an established engineering consultancy based in Manchester. They work on a range of interesting projects across the UK including commercial, public sector, student accommodation, heritage and industrial.

Client

Our client is an exciting engineering consultancy who have experienced impressive growth over the past decade and are expanding their operations into Manchester. They offer a range of services including structural, geotechnical, environmental, flood risk and highways consultancy.

Role

The successful candidate will be joining as a leading force in their new Manchester office, reporting directly into the Regional Director and being given the opportunity to build a team around them in the coming years.

As a Principal Structural Engineer you will be a key figure within the team and play a part in the development of the junior members offering continuous support and guidance to them.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in thorough examinations of structural and building problems to identify defects and their causes.
  • Research, review and understand documents prepared by other professionals that relate to and inform the outputs of the role.
  • Determine effective and innovative remedial actions to address defects and their causes.
  • Create detailed, clear, and concise reports, ensuring they meet the highest professional and company quality standards.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members to share insights, seek advice, and contribute to collective problem solving.
  • Monitor time and resources to ensure assignments are 'on plan' in relation to fees and budget, taking action and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Determine fees in accordance with company policies, ensuring invoices are raised in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with our domestic and commercial clients to understand their unique needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Ensure all outputs adhere to industry standards and all relevant regulations.

Person

  • Degree in structural or civil engineering and chartered status (or close to chartered status).
  • Excellent communication skills, including effective report writing and explaining findings verbally, considering the needs of nontechnical clients.
  • Ability to carry out simple structural design using both hand calculations and computer based techniques
  • Full UK driving license.

Remuneration

  • £55,000-£65,000 salary depending on experience.
