Pre Construction Manager

Let’s talk “Preconstruction”.

Our client is one of the UK’s leading tier one main contractors and due to an internal promotion, they have an opportunity for a Preconstruction Manager to join their team.

As the role title would suggest, you are at the forefront of work winning for the business, the face of the organisation if you will. When fixing “work winning bayonets” you will be the first person over the top, building relationships and winning work.

Based in Derby the client has an enviable client portfolio, with projects already on site this role is a “live” position with the client looking to make an appointment as soon as possible. You will be joining a team of construction professionals, working towards a common goal of delivering the projects on time, to a high standard and on budget.

Our client is an award-winning principal main contractor, who gets stuff done. This isn’t a business that carries layers of red tape, they afford you the autonomy to make decisions and get on with the work, which is rare in a tier one. They also don’t carry layers of management, it’s a very flat team structure where you will report to the Design Director, whilst working “hand in glove” with the project deliver team.

The projects you will be involved with are the higher value schemes, with the initial schemes being circa £25m to £50m in value Education projects across the mid belt of the UK, so northern home counties up to the Midlands and Yorkshire.

The function of the Preconstruction Manager is to take the schemes and relationships, from concept to site. These are proper projects, with up to a year in pre-construction, so we are talking about quality not quantity here, so we are looking for someone who has that type of approach to their work. This isn’t a number games, its all about your ability to pull together the preconstruction team, to delver and write work winning bids.

Due to the size and complexity, you will have only two bids running at any given time, but they will be really snazzy, meaty projects, that you can get your teeth into.

• Network with current and prospective clients – supported by a top brand
• Leading the Preconstruction team to deliver work winning bids
• Work closely with all the internal specialists, to get the best fit for the bid
• Support the writing of the bid – create a one voice document
• Get bids to stage 3, then pass them onto the site teams

• A personality with an eye for detail – clients will want to get to know you, so you will have to be able to build relationships
• Experienced Bid Manager looking to take a step up, or a Preconstruction Manager looking to join an industry leader
• A great communicator, as you will have to pull together a number of internal and external stakeholders to bring the bid to life

Basic salary circa £90,000 + £6,000 car allowance, pension, healthcare DIS, holidays, flexible working
