
Mechanical Estimator
Overview
Atkins Search are currently working with a well-recognised M&E contractor to recruit a Mechanical Estimator to join their versatile and dedicated existing team.
Pipefitters looking to come off the tools into a new challenge will also be considered for this position.
Client
Based in Nottingham, our client holds over 100 years within the mechanical and electrical industry offering services on Commercial, Industrial, Heritage, Residential, New Build and Refurbishment Projects on behalf of major clients nationwide.
Role
As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase by preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical works. Working closely with the senior estimating team and other departments, you will contribute to the successful tendering and delivery of diverse projects.
You will be working across a variety of sectors including Commercial, Retail, Leisure, and Residential. Working closely in a team of Engineers, Technicians and colleagues of various disciplines to manage the delivery of technically excellent, profitable projects for high profile public and private clients.
Working closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams, you will assess project requirements, analyse specifications, and develop detailed cost estimates and proposals.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical projects, including materials, labour, equipment, subcontractor services, and overhead costs
- Provide accurate cost estimates and bids
- Provide consultation on planning (schedules, manpower needs)
- Obtain and review offers and quotes (sub-contractors, materials)
- Building relationships with suppliers, Project Managers, sub-contractors etc
- Support the business unit manager and report back weekly. Collaborate with sales, project management, and engineering teams to understand project requirements, specifications, and timelines
- Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope of work, materials, and labour requirements
- Conduct on-site visits and assessments to gather information and assess project feasibility and potential challenges
- Analyse project risks, uncertainties, and contingencies, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure project success
- Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain pricing and quotes for materials and services
- Develop and present detailed proposals, bid packages, and cost breakdowns to clients and stakeholders
- Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with clients, ensuring profitability and alignment with company goals
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and project documents, and update internal databases and systems accordingly
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and pricing benchmarks to ensure competitiveness and profitability
Person
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator delivering commercial projects
- Excellent project awareness and understanding of the need to adhere to programme, in order to maximise revenue
- Problem solver with a dynamic and proactive approach to finding effective solutions
- Proven and extensive people management experience
- Communicates clearly and concisely at all levels using various methods of communication
