Overview

Atkins Search are currently working with an esteemed M&E Contractor to recruit a knowledgeable Mechanical Estimator to join their diverse and professional team. Junior Mechanical Estimators are also encouraged to apply for this vacancy.

Based in Derbyshire, our client holds over 40 years’ experience as the number one choice for a number of regional and national construction main contractors and developers in England, as well as for a number of blue-chip commercial and educational institutions around the country.

Role

As a Mechanical Estimator you will report directly into the Estimating Director and play a critical role in preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical projects ranging from £300k - £8m in value.

Working closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams, you will assess project requirements, analyse specifications, and develop detailed cost estimates and proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical projects, including materials, labour, equipment, subcontractor services, and overhead costs.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates and bids.
  • Provide consultation on planning (schedules, manpower needs).
  • Obtain and review offers and quotes (sub-contractors, materials).
  • Building relationships with suppliers, Project Managers, sub-contractors etc.
  • Support the business unit Director and report back weekly. Collaborate with sales, project management, and engineering teams to understand project requirements, specifications, and timelines.
  • Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope of work, materials, and labour requirements.
  • Conduct on-site visits and assessments to gather information and assess project feasibility and potential challenges.
  • Analyse project risks, uncertainties, and contingencies, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure project success.
  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain pricing and quotes for materials and services.
  • Develop and present detailed proposals, bid packages, and cost breakdowns to clients and stakeholders.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with clients, ensuring profitability and alignment with company goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and project documents, and update internal databases and systems accordingly.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and pricing benchmarks to ensure competitiveness and profitability.

Person

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator delivering commercial projects.
  • Excellent project awareness and understanding of the need to adhere to programme, in order to maximise revenue.
  • Problem solver with a dynamic and proactive approach to finding effective solutions.
  • Proven and extensive people management experience.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely at all levels using various methods of communication.
  • Strong team player.
