Design Manager

Atkins Search are currently working with one of the UK’s leading tier one construction main contractors to recruit a Design Manager to join their project delivery team.

Based in Derby they have an enviable client portfolio, with projects already on site this role is a “live” position with the client looking to make an appointment as soon as possible. You will be joining a team of construction professional, working towards a common goal of delivering the projects on time, to a high standard and on budget.

Our client is an award-winning principal main contractor, who gets stuff done. This isn’t a business that carries layers of red tape, they afford you the autonomy to make decisions and get on with the work, which is rare in a tier one. They also don’t carry layers of management, it’s a very flat team structure where you will report to the Design Director, whilst working “hand in glove” with the project deliver team.

The projects you will be involved with are the higher value schemes, with the initial schemes being circa £25m to £50m in value Education projects across the mid belt of the UK, so northern home counties up to the Midlands and Yorkshire.

The function of the Design Manager role will be to support the pre-construction team to get the projects to site at a fit to build level, then staying with these schemes through their construction phase.

Ongoing support and guidance to both the Pre Construction and Delivery teams, include technical advice, VE, implement and reporting design revisions, and the day to day tasks of Senior Design Manager in the construction industry on a £50m scheme.

• Be the technical design lead for the projects from concept to completion
• The go to person for technical and design management advice support on the schemes
• Manage Design process from preconstruction through to delivery
• Maximise value engineering and creation opportunities
• Manage design process with external consultants
• Review sub-contractor design proposals
• Review the design on an ongoing basis, identifying potential interface, buildability and coordination issues, resolving them with the design and project team
• Coordinating the production of design information to be included in the tender submission.

Circa £55,000/ £65,000 basic salary, plus £5,000 car allowance, pension, healthcare, holidays, flexible working policy.
