Atkins Search are recruiting for a Business Unit Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s team. Our client is a profitable, multi-disciplined main contractor looking to add additional talent to their team, with projects consisting of void and minor work refurbishment schemes on behalf of local authorities.

Role
As the Business Unit Quantity Surveyor, you will have the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines within the business, offering variety within your role. You will be working within Operational Business Units BU4 (Construction Services), BU5 (Electrical), and potentially BU8 (New Build M&E). The projects you will be involved with include void properties consisting of conversions and extensions, door, window, and roof replacements, as well as domestic refurbishments, kitchens, bathrooms, and electrical works for commercial and residential schemes.
Responsibilities
- Support the production of budgets, forecasts, and monthly CVR's
- Manage project income recovery and instigate action to ensure prompt payment of invoices
- Undertake cash flow forecasts on project programmes
- Lead on the valuation, tendering, and submission of contract variations
- Cost reporting
- Work with the project delivery team(s) to ensure that the contracts are administered accurately
- Attend site visits and undertake site measurements as required
- Obtain sub-contractor and materials costs, evaluate prices, and negotiate with sub-contractors as required to provide meaningful costs within the agreed timeframe
- Liaise with the client to establish Value for Money on projects and budgets
- Ensure the timely provision of commercial reports, including contract variations
- Support the development of feasibility proposals by providing robust cost estimates and procurement recommendations
- Advise on a procurement strategy
- Valuate and clearly understand the details and requirements for each estimate
Person
The ideal Business Unit Quantity Surveyor will have experience working within the facilities management sector, delivering void, minor works, and refurbishment projects on behalf of local authorities.
Experience working with social housing contracts is highly desirable, including voids, domestic refurbishments, kitchens, bathrooms, electrical works, and new builds.
- Excellent communication skills
- Quantity Surveying experience
- Experience tendering schemes with local authorities
- Sector experience across void and minor works schemes
- Experience with JCT and NEC forms of contract
- Experience working with NATFED SOR’s
- Ability to build up rates using PLANT, LAB, MAT, BIS, PRELIM, OH/P
- Familiarity with managing low-value, high-volume contracts (typically between £1k - £50k per property)
- Experience working on multi-million/multi-year contracts with long-term local authority and housing association clients
