The Lake District 5 Peak Challenge

On the morning of the 14th September the Atkins Search team came together at The Old Dungeon Ghyll to start the annual “Atkins Search” charity challenge, to scale the Lake District 5 peaks.

A team of 20 ascended the first peak full of vim and vigger, with the weather worsening with every step. At the top of the first peak, “Rossett Pike” we celebrated with a wet and windswept cheer, before moving on to tackle “Scafell Pike”. As the weather worsened, and the wind blowing over some of the walkers, the guide became more concerned about the ascent to Scafell so a meeting was called at the “Stream of Death” to decide what to do next.

We took our guides advice that the ascent to Scafell was now too dangerous as the winds would have been circa 50 mph on the climb up, so an alternative plan was agreed, we would take in 4 other peaks that were at a safer height, crossing of a number of Wainwrights Peaks on the way.

All in all, the Lake District 5 peak challenge was completed in around 8 hours, taking in 20km of mountain, albeit without the scalp of Scafell attached to our belts.

All the walkers put in a great shift, especially with the horrendous weather conditions for the first 4 hours of the day and should be very proud of your efforts.

The weather on Scafell may have beaten us this time, but it will be firmly in our sights as we plan for next year’s charity challenge. To all of the team, we thank you for your efforts in such adverse weather conditions – “Fac Fortia Et Patere”

Don’t worry, if you would still like to show your support to the team and our Charity of the Year Tough To Talk, our fundraising won’t stop here! – https://gofund.me/e13dd719
