The team at Atkins James are undertaking a sponsored walk at Kinder Scout in the Peak District, to raise funds for FareShare who redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals. It costs just 25p to redistribute a meal so our fundraising target of £500 would be the equivalent to 2,000 redistributed meals for vulnerable people throughout the UK!
Why FareShare? Well the Covid free school meals VOTE bought them to our attention, so we want to support their efforts. A little bit more detail about the charity is below:
By collecting food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributing it to good causes, FareShare saves the UK economy approximately £51 million every year. This means that by collecting food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributing it to charity and community groups, FareShare creates approximately £50.9 million of social-economic impact each year. This is made up of £6.9 million in social value to the beneficiaries themselves and £44 million in savings to the State (i.e. to the NHS, the criminal justice system, to schools and social care).
We appreciate it is a difficult time for everyone right now and any donations would be hugely appreciated, no matter how small – every little helps
