What is a construction design job?

Design management in construction involves the strategic oversight and co-ordination of the design process, ensuring it aligns with the client’s original concept.

It’s a responsible role that must find the balance between meeting – and even surpassing – the client’s expectations while adhering to regulatory standards and optimising several ongoing workflows.

You will enjoy collaborating with architects, engineers, consultants, and other key stakeholders to translate the design ‘vision’, helping them to work effectively and efficiently and finding practical solutions to any issues.

A design manager will use their high-level communication skills throughout the different phases of the construction lifecycle, from conception to successful completion. They will analyse the practicalities, timescales and budget to ensure the project stays on track and is commercially viable.

They establish clear design objectives, schedules, and deliverables, constantly reviewing the design’s technical aspects while balancing the needs of the multi-disciplinary design teams working on the project.

Design managers relish the challenges of achieving innovative design excellence while maintaining project constraints, managing the impact of design decisions on a project’s scope, cost, and schedule.

It’s a hugely rewarding opportunity to meet the client’s vision and expectations while enhancing the overall quality and value of the project.
